Women who want to take control of their finances and reduce future stress for themselves and their families need to get financially organized, says Mark Singer CFP®.
Many women are great multi-taskers. But one hazard of trying to do many things at once is that it can increase clutter. That's especially true when it comes to financial issues. To get a better sense of where things stand, women should take a step back to get a big-picture look at their finances, and then try to organize what they have.
Getting organized helps create a sense of control. You'll know where all important documents and information are, you'll have disposed of old, out-of-date paperwork, and you (and your family) will be less likely to feel overwhelmed by your financial situation. This sense of control is particularly valuable when the unexpected happens, such as an illness or death. Being organized helps to take the burden off of other family members, who won't have to hunt for information during an emotionally trying time. Another benefit of being in control and more organized is that you will be able to focus on other areas of your life, knowing that you have taken care of this one.
