Earth Day is tomorrow, Tuesday April 22. The theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.” The day hopes to focus on renewable energy, encouraging all to make sustainable energy choices. The goal is to triple the use of clean energy sources by 2030.

Check Out a New Art Installation at the Georgetown Waterfront
There is a new, temporary art installation along the Georgetown Waterfront called “The River and the Town.” The piece is by Artist in Residence at Georgetown University’s Earth Commons Institute Amy Limauro. It tells the past, present and future stories of life, flood risk and more in the Potomac River floodplan.

Take Part in Anacostia Watershed Society’s Annual Earth Day Cleanup
Started 40 years ago by D.C. native Howard Gasaway of Seafarers Yacht Club, the annual Anacostia River Earth Day Cleanup is Saturday, April 26 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Volunteers from around the Watershed pick up trash and come together to celebrate the community and Earth Day. Ramble with a Ranger: Arbor Day Edition
Arbor Day is this Friday, April 25. Continue Earth Day festivities with Arbor Day celebrations! By learning about the incredible trees of Rock Creek Park, you can see all the ways trees make our world better. During this hike, you’ll walk anywhere from a half mile to two miles. Terrain could be uneven or slippery depending on the weather. Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear comfortable shoes and clothing. More information can be found here.

Celebrate Earth Day in the People’s Archive
Explore environmental justice and activism history in the People’s Archive. The self-guided activity at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library will be on April 22 from 12-7 p.m. The People’s Archive at DC Public Library is home to collections that preserve and share stories, voices and the history of D.C.’s diverse communities and the Black experience in the U.S.

Learn Something New at the Living Earth Festival
Saturday at the National Museum of the American Indian, visit a festival of speakers and films revolving around our planet. Learn how Native innovators and practitioners are using Indigenous knowledge to sustain the environment. More information can be found here.

Sign Up for a Yoga Class at the Yards
Celebrate Earth Day with some movement (and hopefully sunshine!). The Yards is offering a free, all-levels outdoor yoga class at 7 a.m. An optional donation of $5 will go toward supporting the Anacostia Watershed Society. More information can be found here.
