Pakistan's Ancient Health and Beauty Secrets

Shagufta Khan will present Unani Beauty and Health Traditions, holistic healing therapies from ancient Southeast Asian and Unani traditions, on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 2pm in the rear salon at Kennedy's Restaurant and Bar. This interactive hands-on workshop will give natural beauty and health secrets; teach on-the-go breathing techniques for relaxation; and provide natural ways to achieve physical and spiritual well-being that has been handed down by word of mouth through generations. Samples, sachets and herbs will be handed out to participants. Admission is $30 at the door or $20 through online registration. The workshop is being offered by Penn Fleming, a Manhattan based matchmaking service for busy professionals. The event provides an opportunity to learn, play, and interact with interesting people. Past workshops have focused on issues ranging from body language to inner and outer beauty. "Shagufta has been a close adviser. Her perspective as a Pakistani-American has helped to broaden my taste in fashion and to explore natural beauty regimens," says Corinne Innis, owner of Penn Fleming. According to Innis, Pakistan has been in the news because of floods and their role as an ally of the United States. This is a great time to learn about the people and customs from that region.

Shagufta has spent a lifetime learning about natural health practices. Much of her knowledge was given to her by her mother and female relatives and is now used in caring for her own family. She hopes that individuals will be encouraged to venture into Southeast Asian stores to look for many of the items that will be passed out throughout her presentation.
