President Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso, Western Africa's key mediator and primary advocate of regional stability joins over 40 heads of states in the nation's capitol for the first White House Summit on Africa:  

 

BACKGROUND:

Washington, D.C.— Aside from the creation of the political party, Congress for Democracy and Progress, the leader reduced the influence of Marxist Policy since assuming office in 1987. Within the African continent, President Compaoré serves as a central mediator in instilling civilian rule in Guinea and the Ivory Coast peace progression. In 2012, he assisted in talks between regional leaders and organizers of the Malian coup d'état. The multitudes of ethnic groups of Burkina Faso unite at the National Culture Week of Burkina Faso or La Semaine Nationale de la culture in Bobo Dioulasso to display art and musical stylings.

 

 

NEWSMAKER:

President Blaise Compaoré of Burkina Faso will assess the results of President Obama's U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit at a National Press Club Newsmaker news conference at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 7 in the Zenger Room.  He also plans to speak on his role as a regional mediator to resolve conflicts in West Africa. Burkina Faso, which means "land of the honest people," is home to Africa's largest film festival, The Panafrican Film and TV Festival of Ouagadougou.
