Procurement Guru provides insight on how public sector organizations can increase productivity and ROI
Toronto, October 1, 2009 – As a result of the scrutiny that public sector organizations have been receiving lately around their purchasing processes, the Ontario Broader Public Sector (BPS) Supply Chain Secretariat has released a new set of procurement guidelines for all hospitals, school boards, colleges and universities in Ontario receiving more than $10m in annual funding, to follow.
As one of the key contributors in the development of these guidelines, Procurement Guru Andrew Miller has written a guide to help organizations successfully implement these guidelines with minimal impact to their operations. The guide is called The Benefits of Compliance: The Procurement Guru's guide to successfully implementing the Ontario BPS Supply Chain Guidelines and will be available in hard copy next week.
It is important that Ontario BPS organizations consider implementing these policies, not because the Ontario government requires them to, but because the policies will benefit their organizations in the long run. Below are some typical results that organizations should expect to achieve through successful implementation of these guidelines:
• Increased return on investment through better focus on organizational requirements and decision-making criteria;
• Increased productivity of supply chain staff as a result of more time spent on content and less time spent on process;
• Increased standardization across an organization through implementation of a consistent procurement approach.
Implementing these guidelines is something that Miller believes will have a positive impact on organizations. "The key to implementing these guidelines successfully is to focus on the essential activities required to be compliant," says Miller.
