Southgate Coins and Collectibles, recognized, as the premier source for Carson City coins, is located in scenic and historic Reno, Nevada. The owners' previous retail store, Las Vegas Rare Coin Gallery, in southern Nevada, closed its doors of operation shortly before the shopping center's landlord demolished the buildings in 2001 at the location the store had occupied for 30 years.
The Goes opened their new store, Southgate Coins, in Reno in September 2001 (shortly after 9/11). The owners used the experience they gained through many years in the rare coin business to equip and furnish the Reno store with as many amenities as possible for today's coin collector. Visitors are impressed when they enter the shop at how attractively it is furnished.
There are display cases full of interesting U.S. coins and paper money. The walls are covered with nostalgic images and historic wall hangings. Many of the most popular reference books are easily within sight. If there's a numismatic item or some information you've been searching for, the odds are in your favor that you'll find it here.
Their Web site (www.southgatecoins.com) attempts to transfer online as many of the highlights from the "brick & mortar" store as possible. The helpful and knowledgeable staff is always available to assist you. During the past 26 years, the Goes (Rusty & Marie) have assisted scores of collectors in their collecting pursuits.
Specializing in everything related to the Carson City Mint, Rusty has assisted collectors in building some of the finest sets of CC coins in history. He has placed some of the scarcest and most celebrated pieces from that legendary institution with his clients. In 2005, he launched the Carson City Coin Collectors of America, a club dedicated to increasing awareness about Nevada?s popular mint and its coins.
Rusty has also teamed with collectors to build some of the finest sets of Standing Liberty quarters. The "Nevada Collection" of Standing Liberty quarters is currently listed in the PCGS Registry Set program as the top award winner for 2002, and in the top five of all time. You can see details at
http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/ Building sets of coins in any category is Rusty?s passion in the field of numismatics.
In 2004, Goe's book,
The Mint on Carson Street: An Enthusiast's Guide to the Carson City Mint, won Book of the Year honors from both the Professional Numismatist's Guild and the Numismatic Literary Guild. In July 2007, Rusty Goe released his second full-length book, entitled
James Crawford: Master of the Mint at Carson City--A Short Full Life. It is a biography of the fourth superintendent at the Carson City Mint. The NLG honored it with its Extraordinary Merit award.
Rusty and Marie Goe have appraised and purchased millions of dollars worth of rare coins and currency from the public over the years. If you have a collection that you want to sell, feel free to contact them, either by phone or the contact request e-mail on their Web site.
