FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Renowned consultant provides insightful radio interview on Toyota's management issues Toronto, Ontario – The newspapers and television shows have been strewn with news about Toyota and its issues around sticky brake pedals, suppressing customer complaints, design issues and all around poor management. Did Toyota grow too fast? Did they sacrifice quality for speed? How can a company that had such a great reputation for quality, all of the sudden make poor quality vehicles? This will be a case study to be discussed for years to come.
In a recent radio interview for CFAX 1070 in Victoria, British Columbia, Andrew Miller, president of ACM Consulting Inc. talks about Toyota's management issues. Andrew "…did a terrific job – without a doubt one of the best interviews we've had" said Murray Langdon, News Director and talk show host of CFAX 1070. In the interview, Miller stresses three points, which are important for any organization to consider:
•
Never rely on past success Toyota has had a great deal of success in the past, and they become too comfortable with their position. They failed to realize that their past results would not guarantee them future success.
•
Be transparent when resolving customer issues The most frustrating aspect of this whole debacle was that Toyota was never voluntarily forthcoming with information about the issues, the resolutions or what was to be changed to avoid this in the future. Many details did not come out until Toyota executives were forced to testify in front of a U.S. senate committee.
•
Don't sacrifice quality for speed Toyota was not satisfied with being the highest quality carmaker in the world; they also wanted to be the biggest. This objective led them away from the principles that allowed them to have the highest quality because they tried to grow too quickly.
Practicing responsible speed™ is the key to success for any growing company. "Companies need to recognize that you can't always push forward at full speed," says Miller, who helps organizations dramatically accelerate results. "You need to give the organization time to come up for air and adjust to new volumes, new operations and new technology. An organization should only expand as quickly as it is able to support that expansion."
Andrew Miller is based out of Toronto and helps clients accelerate results. He has worked with clients of all shapes and sizes across North America and Europe and has recently published a booklet entitled the Speed Principles. To listen to the full radio interview, please visit
