One of the quickest paths for helping to Save Ocean Life is for consumers to demand marine foods that come from sustainable sources. Consumer Power is Dollar Power and That is Real Power is the motto of the Global High Seas Marine Preserve, a non-profit organization founded by Danny Quintana, that is now partnering up with the Monterey Bay Aquarium to promote their Seafood Watch mobile app, downloaded 1.5 million times, which gives consumers awesome power with timely and geographic information on sustainable seafood available at restaurants, markets and ultimately, by proxy, through the wholesalers who supply the retail outlets. Seafood Watch notes that about 00,000 restaurants, stores and other locations, use the information on seafood.

Quintana, author of Space & Ocean Exploration: The Alternative to the Military-Industrial Complex, is also running a parallel effort with GHSMP to ban all industrial and destructive harvesting of marine life in international waters around the world. Large top-of-the-food-chain marine predators like tuna, sharks and whales are being rapidly fished out of existence and the vast ocean ecosystems they help support will suffer in kind. About 100-million sharks are being slaughtered annually for their fins while tuna stocks are hovering on the edge of collapse, this despite the best efforts of conservation foundations and research institutes such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Buy "Best Choice" recommendations first, they're well managed and caught or farmed in ways that cause little harm to habitats or other wildlife.
