Legal Commentary and More...

On Monday, seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens will be arraigned for alleged crimes set forth in a six-count indictment

In the indictment it is alleged that "The Rocket" obstructed a congressional inquiry with 15 different statements made under oath, including denials that he had ever used steroids or human growth hormone.

If found guilty, U.S. sentencing guidelines indicate Clemens would normally be sentenced to a recommended 15 and 21 months in federal prison. It's noted that the maximum sentence is 30 years in prison and a $1.5 million fine.

According to Orange County's 2009 Trial Lawyer of the Year, Jon Mitchell Jackson...

"The Rocket could be looking at more than the recommended guidelines because of his famous stature and the fact that Congress is involved.  Perjury is a very serious thing. Lying to Congress is a severe offense and if found guilty, Mr. Clemens could very well be looking at more than the recommended sentencing guidelines."
