Dr. Christine Anderson, Los Angeles based Pediatric-Chiropractor, is taking advantage of September being Subluxation Awareness Month to bring information to her patients and the public on the why and how of spinal adjustments. Subluxation is simply the misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine and the restrictions of the cranial bones caused by physical, emotional and toxic stressors. Many people visit chiropractors on the advice of family and friends without really knowing why spinal alignment promote not only better health for backs and muscles but also for all the major organs of the body which depend on a healthy nervous system to keep everything running smoothly.
When our spine is in subluxation, or misalignment, the messages from the brain to the organs can be interrupted and that can in turn cause major organs to misfire and even deteriorate. An interesting surprise for even the well informed, since Dr. Anderson is a Pediatric-Chiropractor, is that she regularly adjusts babies, often attending the birth and checking and adjusting the newborn babies. Subluxations can occur from the birth process and so Dr. Anderson recommends that every newborn be checked for subluxations as soon after birth as possible, thus helping to prevent any major issues from developing down the road.
"Natural, drug free chiropractic care can be especially helpful if babies are having any problems, such as nursing, sleeping, or skin issues, reflux, apnea, colic, torticollis, constipation, arching of the back and excessive crying. Gentle chiropractic adjustments and craniosacral treatments can restore optimal function, releasing stress on the nervous system, so babies and parents can be happier," says Dr. Anderson.
Her office is a refurbished house that offers a comfortable atmosphere for whole families, many which come en masse to get adjusted at Dr. Chris' office at Gardner and Sunset in the heart of Hollywood. Anderson strongly urges her patients, and anyone who will listen, to make regular spinal checkups a part of a growing child's health program because the nervous system controls all the functions of the body, including the immune and hormonal system. Any problems with spinal curvatures can be detected early with regular checkups and have a higher possibility of resolving the younger the child.
Dr. Christine Anderson Demonstrates Infant Chiropractic Adjustment:
Unfortunately, because subluxations don't always cause symptoms, the damage from subluxations often accumulate silently for years before problems arise and are addressed. This is yet another reason for everyone to get their spines checked at least bimonthly regardless of how they feel—we know that permanent nerve cell damage occurs after only 2 weeks of pressure from subluxations.
"Personally, I get my spine checked out and adjusted at least once a week due to the amount of physical stress I go through in my busy schedule, this keeps my body tuned up and helps release emotional stress. The same apples to my three children and husband, but by now they know enough about their bodies and what optimal health feels like to seek out adjustments from me," says Dr. Anderson.
