Tennessee adults who are turning age 65 should compare Medicare insurance policies as a way of achieving significant savings. That's the advice shared today by the head of the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (AAMSI).
"A woman turning 65 could pay as little as $95 monthly or as much as $194-per-month for basically identical Medigap coverage," shares Jesse Slome, director of the Association. "That's because each of the insurers offering coverage to Tennessee seniors sets their own rates and they vary," Slome adds. "In addition fees added to the monthly cost may also vary as will discounts for two-person households." In Tennessee, the household discount varies from zero to as high as 14 percent according to the AAMSI policy analysis.
The Association's 2020 Medicare Supplement Price Index reports the lowest and highest insurance rates for Plan G. "Plan G is the most popular choice among seniors turning 65," Slome explains. "The survey is intended to educate more consumers about the importance of comparing options. You might be making a decision that you cannot easily change down the road."
