It's winter, and it's Saturday afternoon in the New England Town of Plymouth MA. What a great time to visit the main branch of the Plymouth Public Library to not only catch a free screening of a documentary, but to meet the filmmaker? The film's title is Alice's Ordinary People, and the filmmaker is Craig Dudnick.
The documentary Civil Rights leader, Alice Tregay – a woman who refused to stand still for injustice and brought others together to change what was.
Having presented in Illinois, Kentucky, and North Carolina, filmmaker Dudnick will conduct several Massachusetts screenings and discussions before moving on to New Hampshire, Vermont and Wisconsin.
Dudnick wrote of film subject Tregay: "Under the leadership of Reverend Jackson, the months that Alice and her "ordinary people" spent picketing led to real change. But it was through her Political Education class, that Alice had her most significant impact. Over a four year period, thousands were trained to work in independent political campaigns. This new force was integral to the re-election of Ralph Metcalf to Congress (this time as an independent democrat), to the election of Harold Washington, mayor, and to making Barack Obama, our first African American President."
