Top College Cartoonist Wins Scholarship
For Immediate Release: ??Top College Cartoonist Scholarship Award Winner, Mengxin Li??
The National Cartoonists Society Foundation (NCSF) is happy to announce the winner of the 2010 Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship. Mengxin Li, a junior at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York where she studies film and animation. ??The scholarship is awarded to the top college cartoonist, selected by a jury of professional cartoonists. Li was chosen from among 60 applicants for the award, which includes a $5,000 scholarship and a trip to the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award weekend in Jersey City, NJ on May 28.
Born in China, Li grew-up in Japan, drawing cartoons from a young age. She received the third place prize at the Beijing International Student Animation Festival and her comic "Wind Chevalier" has been featured in the Japanese manga publication, Shoujo Jump.
According to Between Friends cartoonist, Sandra Bell Lundy, "Mengxin's work is extremely accomplished and I wish her a hearty congratulations and much success in her future cartooning career!"
The Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship is an annual award established in memory of Jay Kennedy, the beloved King Features comics editor.
