The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow? At Least ‘Annie’ Thinks So!

The classic musical “Annie” will be at the National Theatre Friday, April 11 through April 20. The show all about holding onto hope when times are tough has reminded generations of viewers that even in the worst of times, it’s important to focus on optimism, the spirit of family and of course enjoy the songs that have entertained theatergoers for years. The Peabody Chamber Music Department Presents a Student Concert
The Peabody Chamber Music Department is hosting an afternoon concert Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The concert will be under the direction of Annie Fullard, Sidney M. Friedberg Chair and director of Chamber Music. The Peabody Chamber Music program provides weekly instruction for intermediate and advanced students, consisting of coachings, guest master classes, special events and performances. Mayor Bowser to Host D.C. Emancipation Day 20th Anniversary Parade, Festival and Concert

Mayor Muriel Bowser is hosting D.C.’s Emancipation Day festivities on Sunday. The 20th annual celebration invites residents from all eight wards to partake in the day-long celebration. The day starts with a parade and festival at 2 p.m., concert at 4 p.m. and concludes with an 8:30 p.m. fireworks display. Residents are encouraged to RSVP here.

Great Masters: Nikolai Medtner and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov
The closing concert of the Russian Chamber Art Society’s 2024-25 season at the Embassy of France, 4101 Reservoir Road NW, will feature 21 art songs, known as romances, sung in Russian by soprano Natalie Conte and baritone Anton Belov. Half were composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, one of the “MIghty Five” nationalist composers, and half by Nikolai Medtner, a much-younger, long-neglected exile. The singers will be accompanied by pianists Vera Danchenko-Stern, RCAS founder and artistic director, and Martin Labazevitch, who will also play four solo works by Medtner. Take Part in a Bluebell Walk

The Piedmont Environmental Council and Margrete Stevens are hosting a bluebell walk on the banks of Cedar Run at Bonny Brook Farm in Catlett, VA this Sunday. Stevens, along with her husband Mike, hosted the event for 22 years. This year will honor Mike, who passed away in February from ALS on their farm. More information on the walk can be found here.

Take in Some Plays at the Round House Theatre
Beginning this weekend is the fourth Bonnie Hammerschlag National Capital New Play Festival, an annual event that celebrates new works by some of the emerging voices and leading playwrights in the U.S. Audiences can enjoy readings of plays in development and sit and take in dramaturgs (literary editors on the staff of a theater who consult with authors and edit texts), directors and other theater professionals’ conversations. Georgetown in Bloom—Few Tickets are Left for Saturday’s Flower Show
Saturday from 1-5 p.m., don’t miss the third annual Georgetown Flower Tour. Participants can visit a dozen Georgetown Main Street local businesses to build their own bouquet. At each stop, guests collect a flower, and greens stems in bouquet bags and by the end of the tour, a full bouquet will be complete! More information on tickets can be found here.
