Happy Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day weekend! There is plenty to do, including a concert with the National Chamber Ensemble, the D.C. Independent Film Forum and of course celebrating George Washington himself at Mount Vernon.

Love is in the Air at the National Chamber Ensemble

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the National Chamber Ensemble on Saturday. “Love at the Cinema” explores some of the most romantic film scores of all time. Combined with dancing by choreographer Lucy Bowen McCauley with members of Peridance Contemporary Dance Company in New York, the performance promises to be a celebration of love in all its forms. Spend Your Lunch Hour at Phillips Collection Friday
The Phillips Collection launches the Living Room tomorrow at noon. The Living Room is a series of conversations that offer intimate talks that bring together artists, authors, curators, museum professionals and others to discuss contemporary culture and art. First up is tomorrow at noon and will talk about colored paper pulp. Award-winning artists Lynn Sures and Michelle Samour will be featured, along with a Q&A and book signing afterward. The Perfect Valentine’s Weekend Date Night: “The Love Birds: Chaucer’s A Parlement of Foules”
Folger Consort is presenting a weekend of romance with “The Love Birds: Chaucer’s A Parlement of Foules” on stage Friday through Sunday only. The show sheds light on Geoffrey Chaucer’s 14th-century vision of love, incorporating medieval and modern music. Helen Hayes Award winner Holly Twyford will read passages from Chaucer’s poem throughout the show. There will also be the world premiere of a Folger-commissioned work by Juri Seo, who mixed humor, warmth and the beauty of love and nature. More information can be found here.

Last Chance to Catch “What the Constitution Means to Me”

Closing Sunday at the Round House Theatre, “What the Consitution Means to Me” takes attendees on teenager Heidi Schreck traveling across the U.S. and eventually becoming an Obie Award-winning playwright. She takes an in-depth look at the Constitution and how it affected four generations of women in her family. More information on the show can be found here.

Spend Presidents Day at Mount Vernon
George Washington’s Mount Vernon is full of celebrations in honor of Presidents Day on Monday. All weekend guests can check out the historic preservation work going on (the first time the public is invited to do so!). They can also check out The George Washington Presidential Library, which is typically only open to researchers. There will also be plenty of birthday celebrations including music by the Air Force String Quartet, a children’s story time and lots of food and drinks. The D.C. Independent Film Forum is Screening

The 26th Annual D.C. Independent Film Forum is showing at Regal Gallery Place through Monday. There are 15 feature films and nine short films that are screening starting at $13 each. Filmmaker Q&As will be held throughout the forum, as well as seminars surrounding the world of film. More information can be found here.

Take the Family to the Capitol Hill Volleyball Classic

If your family enjoys a rousing game of volleyball, you’ll want to check out the Capitol Hill Volleybal Classic at the Walter E. Convention Center Saturday through Monday.
