Things are busy this weekend with the arrival of spring and warmer weather. Celebrate all things Irish with St. Patrick’s Day events, take in beautiful choral music, visit the Kennedy Center for some events and don’t forget to celebrate Pi Day.

Amy Kaslow Gallery will Host an Artist Talk This Evening

Chukwudinma Nsofor will be on hand for an artist talk at Amy Kaslow Gallery this evening at 6 p.m. Nsofor will be on hand to meet guests and will begin his presentation at 6:30 p.m. The event is part of the gallery’s current exhibit “CHUKWUDINMA!” More information on tickets can be found here.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at The Barns at Wolf Trap

Irish Masters of the D.C. Area with the Culkin School of Irish Dance will be performing at the Barns at Wolf Trap Friday and Saturday evening. Unfortunately, Friday’s performance is already sold out, but there are still tickets for Saturday’s show. The show will be choreographed by former World Championship competitive Irish dance Samantha Hopkins. More information on tickets can be found here.

Don Your Best Green Outfit and Head to The Wharf
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at The Wharf this Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. with a festival featuring Irish music and dancers, rugby on the big screen and a VIP experience that includes a complimentary pint of Guinness or glass of wine, a meet and greet with the bands performing, and an Irish whiskey sampling. The Hayes Piano Series Continues Saturday

The Washington Performing Arts Hayes Piano Series continues Saturday afternoon with Clayton Stephenson at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Stephenson was a finalist in the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and 2022 Gilmore Young Artist Awardee. By age 10, he was at The Juilliard School’s pre-college program and he now studies at the Harvard-New England Conservatory Dual Degree Program. Cathedral Choral Society and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Perform Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D

The Cathedral Choral Society with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will be premiering Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the National Cathedral. Dame Ethel Smyth was a British composer and early 20th century suffragette. She was also a conductor and author who knew famous composers like Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann and was also close with writers Virginia Woolf and Edith Somerville. See a Feminine Perspective of “Hamlet” at Folger Shakespeare Library

Folger Theatre, along with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company premiered “A Room in the Castle” March 4. The show runs through April 6 and tells the tale of a reimagining of Shakespeare’s famous play “Hamlet.” The show tells the perspective of women within the troubled castle’s walls and was written by Lauren M. Gunderson and production design is by Kaja Dunn. More information on tickets can be found here.

The Washington Master Chorale Concludes its Season with “The All-Night Vigil at 110”

Celebrate the conclusion of the Washington Master Chorale with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “All-Night Vigil, Op. 37,” in honor of the 110th anniversary of its premiere. It is said to be one of Rachmaninoff’s favorite works. It will be performed live by the Washington Master Chorale for the first time in 10 years. More information on tickets can be found here.

The Kennedy Center x Your Brain on Art Present In-Q

With the first of many events during the season, the Kennedy Center will present “The Power of Poetry with IN-Q” Saturday at 2 p.m. IN-Q is an Emmy-nominated, multi-platinum songwriter and national poetry slam champion. The spoken word performance will be in the Family Theater and feature live readings of his most popular poems. More information on tickets can be found here.

Named the best Irish group in bluegrass by Irish American News, the band JigJam will be performing Friday evening at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. The quartet first made their debut at the Grand Ole Opry in 2023 where they were joined by musicians like Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood and Lauren Alaina. Continue to Celebrate Women’s History Month with the National Museum of Women in the Arts

Sunday evening at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Director and CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Los Angeles, Sandra Jackson-Dumont will be speaking. She will discuss the importance of telling stories and how the Lucas Museum and NMWA are leading organizations in championing underrepresented artists and art forms. Get Ready to Draw at the National Building Museum

“The Big Draw,” a free, day-long festival will be Saturday at The National Building Museum. The festival will invite visitors to discover the power of drawing as a tool for communication and design. Celebrate the Sounds of America with a Cabaret at St. John’s Episcopal Church

St. John’s Episcopal Church is hosting a cabaret called “Of Thee I Sing: A Journey Through the American Songbook” Friday and Saturday evening. Pi Day is Friday! Naturally, There will be a Pie Eating Contest

1310 Kitchen & Bar is hosting a pie eating contest in honor of “Pi Day” on Friday. While participant spaces are sold out, there is still an opportunity to cheer on those who want to indulge. Also, Chef Jenn Corvato of 1310 will be selling a special menu of pies at a discounted price, including pizza pies and her famous Mississippi mud pie.
