How much do New Jersey seniors turning 65 pay for their Medicare supplement insurance? According to the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance virtually identical coverage can come with a $575 higher price tag.

"One Medicare insurance company charges $127 monthly for a woman turning 65 while another charges $176 for basically identical coverage," shares Jesse Slome, director of the Association.  "In New Jersey added fees vary and available discounts also vary.  You might find a five percent household discount or one as high as 14 percent."

The Association's 2020 Medicare Price Index reports the lowest and highest Medicare Supplement insurance rates for Plan G.  "Plan G is the most popular Medigap choice among seniors turning 65," Slome explains.  "We urge consumers to compare their Medicare supplement insurance options.  You might be making a decision that you cannot easily change down the road."

"Each of the individual insurance companies establish pricing for New Jersey applicants," Slome explains.  "Beyond the savings opportunity, Medicare insurance can be complicated especially when you are new to the plan.  Working with a knowledgeable local Medicare insurance advisor or agent can be very helpful."
