When cash is OK to give for the holidays; and when it is tasteless

Only when the recipient is under 25 and you are over 30. You would never give a friend cash. You would never give your cousin cash. But you might give it to your niece or nephew. Cash is really only acceptable for a child or young adult. Otherwise, it is a crass and tasteless gift.

The only exception is when you are tipping someone in a service position. Then, cash is OK, but a gift card would be better.
