Don't listen to critics, don't try to win their approval. Be true to yourself. By all means, accept feedback when you solicit it from respected others. But ignore unsolicited feedback since it's always for the sender. This is especially so for women, whom I've seen critiqued for their clothing, hair, and accessories rather than their content and value.
I've never read “smile sheets” in my life, nor worried about standing ovations. I want to please the buyer, not necessarily the audience. Don't become a ping pong ball among the critics. No one is erecting statues of critics in the parks, and no banks are accepting “10s” on feedback sheets to pay the mortgage.
