Zoë Salon & Spa Pink Hair For Life Is A Success!

Over 2000 Supporters With Pink Hair Extensions Helped Raise $19,000

To Help Susan G. Komen For The Cure® Fight Against Breast Cancer!

Washington D.C.     During September and October, Zoë Salon & Spa put forth a tremendous effort to raise $19,000 in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® breast cancer research! This time of year is always a special time for breast cancer awareness and for salon clients to show support for various breast cancer fundraising projects. From Rockville, Maryland to McLean, Virginia and Fairfax, Virginia, women received pink hair extensions after donating $10 or more to help make a difference and put an end to breast cancer. This event has encouraged many newcomers to join the battle. Advocates came together at sporting events, school lunches and even the famous Washington Redskins half-time show to unite in a community effort to represent the power of wearing pink! Over the past 5 years, many women's clubs, sports teams and sororities have visited Zoë Salon & Spa to get matching pink hair extensions, with last year's effort raising $17,000.

Pink Hair For Life is a new national movement launched this year by Zoë Salon & Spa to support Susan G. Komen's philosophy, 'Less Talk, More Action'. Andrew Tkach, owner of Zoë Salon & Spa notes, "Pink Hair For Life has the power to continuously spread awareness while showing your personal support in a very fashionable way. You become a walking billboard for Breast Cancer Awareness, helping to spread the word while raising funds to make a difference. Breast cancer has greatly impacted many of our Zoë clients, their families and friends as well as our entire community. For these reasons, Pink Hair For Life has become the new mission of our Zoë Salon & Spa team. We will continue to dedicate our time and efforts to help fund research and education, while also finding a cure through this important annual fundraising effort."

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. It is the leading cause of deaths among women worldwide. The greatest risk factors for breast cancer are being female and growing older. Every 69 seconds, a woman dies of breast cancer somewhere in the world. According to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® organization, breast cancer will strike 1.3 million women this year. This disease will kill almost 500,000, leaving behind family and friends to help continue the fight and put an end to breast cancer. There are about two and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States.

The Pink Event:    The Zoë Salon & Spa Team welcomed walk-ins in all three of their locations, while also traveling around the area to sporting and school events to provide pink hair. Groups of supporters were encouraged to make their donations and receive one or more Pink Babe Hair Extensions. The pink hair extensions create a wonderful unifying bond with women who have been touched by the ill-effects of breast cancer. Babe Hair Extensions are professionally bonded or clip-in hair extensions that attach to your hair with no mess or damage. Babe Hair Extensions are made with 100% natural human hair.

The NFL Washington Redskins, schools, local sports teams and area businesses welcomed Pink Hair For Life. Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, VA invited the Zoë Salon & Spa team to join their lunches and participate in their own breast cancer awareness activities. Centreville High School in Centreville, VA also invited the team to come to their field hockey games in support of their own breast cancer event, 'Play For Life'. The Examiner Newspaper in McLean, VA held a successful event in support for a team member that was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. With great efforts, coworkers joined Pink Hair for Life and gathered to make donations towards Komen for The Cure!

Future Hope:    "There is no doubt about it. Pink hair has become a well-known symbol here in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area for breast cancer awareness. Pink Hair For Life connects us with supporters, survivors, victims and loved ones. Our hope is to continue this beneficial event and to exceed our fundraising goals year after year." says Andrew Tkach, CEO of Zoë Salon and Spa.
