Plymouth Meeting, Pa. USA (November 6, 2008) AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, announces today that it has acquired OEST Associates, Inc.
OEST is an engineering and architecture firm headquartered in Portland, Maine, with a satellite office near Orlando, Fla. Founded in 1982, the company now has more than 100 professionals serving clients in the private and public sectors.
OEST strengthens AMEC?s ability to provide mechanical, electrical and structural engineering and architecture services, which are strategic to the continued growth of AMEC?s business with the U.S. Federal government. The acquisition also bolsters AMEC?s civil engineering design and sustainable design resources in the U.S. and provides additional Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) skills.
The purchase is consistent with AMEC?s strategy of geographic and capacity expansion in its Earth and Environmental division and follows the acquisition of eight other consultancy businesses since January 2007.
Roger Jinks, President of AMEC?s Earth and Environmental division said: ?OEST is a great fit, geographically and strategically. It doubles AMEC?s presence in New England and provides facility design and architectural skills necessary for many Federal contracts. In the past we?ve often had to rely on subcontractors to provide design and architectural services.?
Harvey Oest, President and founder of OEST, said: ?By joining AMEC we will add value for our clients and our staff. As part of a growing and dynamic global organization, clients will have access to a broader array of services and our staff will see new technical and professional opportunities open up across the nation and abroad.?
The acquired company will continue to operate as OEST Associates, Inc. for a short interim period, until the necessary business, architecture and engineering licensure conversions to AMEC are completed. OEST?s headquarters are located at 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, ME 04106.

The business provides a broad range of environmental, geotechnical, water resources, infrastructure, materials testing, and project management services to public and private clients.
Earth and Environmental works for customers common to AMEC?s Natural Resources and Power and Process divisions, providing services from environmental impact assessments at the earliest stages of the project life cycle right through to advising on clean up following decommissioning.
Market drivers for this division include growth in environmental legislation; increasing corporate social responsibility; increasing use of brownfield sites and exploration of increasingly environmentally sensitive regions by natural resources companies.
The market for environmental services is large and fragmented. Earth and Environmental will continue to follow a strategy of continued growth in selected sectors, both organically and by way of acquisitions which will enhance capabilities and facilitate selective regional expansion.
