Chore Chart

A new Web site called ChoreCharts.net offers dozens of illustrated, printable chore charts to help children and their families or classroom teachers track goals and behavior.

There are charts for everyone from preschoolers to teens. Non-readers can see pictures related to getting ready for school, and older kids can observe tasks tied to privileges and consequences. There are even charts to help kids kick habits such as nail biting, thumb sucking or pacifier use.

"Many families find that a chore chart is just what they need to get kids on track, whether it's homework, music practice or tooth brushing," said Kevin Savetz, the site's creator. "The visual prompt of a convenient, easy-to use chart is a fun way to help hold children accountable."

The charts at ChoreCharts.net, which was launched in December 2008, are professionally designed in full color, and the charts for the littlest learners feature illustrations of chores and self-care such as personal hygiene, getting ready for bed and pet care. There are potty training charts in both boy and girl versions.

There are two versions of each chart. The free version can be instantly downloaded and printed as-is in PDF (Acrobat) form. Also available is a $5 premium version, which downloads as a .DOC file that can be customized in Microsoft Word. With the .DOC version, parents can edit the chores list and customize tasks and behavior goals to better suit their family. In some designs, the child's name can also be typed in. Once a premium design is downloaded, the user can save it to his or her computer to alter and use again and again.

"Parents can use the chore charts in conjunction with a reward system, or just by themselves," Savetz explained. "Behavior charts and homework charts are also popular with teachers and homeschooling parents."

As tasks are completed, the parent, teacher or child can X out a box on the chore chart or add a sticker.

Some of the charts are in seven-days-of-the-week format (by week or by month), others are just Monday through Friday and still others are grids designed for children to work toward a reward, one accomplishment at a time.

ChoreCharts.net is part of the FreePrintable.net family of free printables sites created by Savetz Publishing, Inc., a company devoted to creating useful and informative web sites of interest to consumers and small businesses.
