I am a clinical psychologist, who has treated couples for over 40 years. My bestselling (in 2002) book, Can Your Relationship Be Saved: How To Know Whether To Stay Or Go, along with the fact that I've done over 1000 guest appearances on radio and TV including (including WGN) and all the big shows, would make me an ideal guest for this topic. I also had a 17 year career of the radio psychologist on such stations as WCAU/WPHT and WWDB in Philadelphia, WOR in New York and NBC Talknet, on the national level.
1. I can tell many stories about people who had a great relationship until they had to spend too much time together. Each couple has to know the limits of their relationship in order to make it optimal.
2. There was possibly not enough distraction to blur out much of the problematic stuff that all this additional time together has brought out.
3. The pandemic has tended to advance pre-existing relationship issues to the top of many couples "To do" list.
4. The key to making any relationship work well, is a couples ability to resolve conflict together. Couples who can't do this will probably not grow old together anyway. But the good news is that if you have discovered that your relationship is in trouble, the best time to get help with it is before it's too late.
5. I Believe that much in this regard will change. Many perspective couples will meet virtually until they determine that the next step is in order. I have many other ideas on this topic as well.
