In a tweet earlier today, NFT trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis revealed that XFL Properties LLC has filed new Federal trademark applications to register XFL and its X Logo for various NFT and Metaverse products and services, including:
• NFTs and NFT marketplaces
• Providing Metaverse experiences
• Virtual goods and multimedia for use in the Metaverse
The applications were filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on April 4, 2022.
"The potential value attached to the XFL name and brand is substantial," Mr. Kondoudis said. "These filings represent the next logical step to protect the brand as it moves into the Metaverse."
"Clearly, the XFL sees the potential of the Metaverse and is preparing its brand to participate inthe virtual economy that will dominate it," Mr. Kondoudis opined.
Mr. Kondoudis added that this filing "follows the trend by other professional sports brands to begin preparations to participate in the Metaverse."
"We expect the number of trademark filings from the professional sports sector for NFTs and virtual products and services to increase over the next twelve months as brands come to appreciate the need for protections in the Metaverse," Mr. Kondoudis concluded.
Michael Kondoudis is a Washington DC-based trademark lawyer who tracks Metaverse and NFT trademark filings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Kondoudis does not represent XFL Properties LLC.
