1. Make Your Blog Go "Ka-ching"

Make your blog do double duty, and you'll soon hear the sweet sound of "ka-ching, ka-ching."

While other content marketers are scurrying to write and publish ebooks for the Kindle and the Nook, smart Publicity Hounds are going to their blogs, plucking a group of posts on the same topic, and packaging them as profitable ebooks.

People who buy them, and like them, can then subscribe to the blog's RSS feed so all that great content keeps coming. The link for the feed is inside the ebook, along with links leading readers to your product pages.

That's one easy way to make money from your blog.

Here's another that works particularly well for nonprofits: Use a tip jar hooked to PayPal. WordPress and Blogger have their own plug-ins for "Donate Now" buttons that take donors directly to PayPal. Set it up once, and collect moolah forever.

I shared two dozen more ideas during the webinar "27 Ways to Monetize Your Blog." You can access the replay here

2. How Journalists Use LinkedIn

When I spoke to the Central Iowa Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America this week, I explained seven ways journalists use LinkedIn Groups:

--They join Groups devoted to topics they cover, and hunt for story ideas.

--They can see you answering other people's questions. If they're impressed and want to know more, they can contact you directly from within the Group even if they aren't connected to you.

--They look for industry trends.

--They post status updates asking for specific types of sources they need to interview.

--Some journalists, like Michele Hollow, have their own LinkedIn groups and post queries for stories they're working on. She's a freelancer who writes about lifestyle topics for many big newspapers and magazines. She has a Pet News & Views group on LinkedIn.

--They use Groups to fact-check.

--They conduct interviews right there.

Publicity Hounds who spend time building the relationship with journalists in LinkedIn Groups and on sites like Twitter will get much farther than those who pitch. Learn what to say and how to say it by accessing the video replay of "How to Use Social Media to Connect with Journalists."
