Kansas State University is on its way to becoming a top 50 public research university by 2025. Founded in 1863 as a land-grant institution, the university has campuses in Manhattan, Olathe and Salina, Kan. A leader in food safety and animal health, the university boasts the Biosecurity Research Institute, a biosafety level-3 laboratory, and is the future home of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility. Additional university sites include four agricultural experiment stations and an 8,600-acre native tallgrass prairie, Konza Prairie Biological Station.
