What’s new – that we cover in the class…
Step 1 – Learn about Federal Jobs. This is important. First time job seekers are so intimidated by USAJOBS. We need to show them how to find jobs of interest to them — with demonstrations.
Step 2 – Networking – WAY more information on Direct Hire Authorities. The DHAs are being used more and more by HR recruiters and managers to hire FASTER. Adding the hiring authority to the top of the resume is critical.

Step 4 – Keywords – With the Direct Hire announcements, the Specialized Experience section is short. And there is NO questionnaire. Finding keywords is still critical to get Best Qualified.

Step 6 – Writing a SEARCHABLE federal resume in USAJOBS. How, Why and Samples (this is new for 2024)
Step 7 – Accomplishments – STILL important. This section on the resume is the MOST OFTEN left off!

- Recruiting practices by human resources specialists – The new USAJOBS Talent Portal is open and HR specialists are searching USAJOBS for SEARCHABLE resumes for possible candidates for specific jobs.
- Mark one resume SEARCHABLE in USAJOBS.
- Write one resume that covers keywords for multiple series – for HR specialists searching for specific keywords from occupational series.
- The questionnaires are still challenging.
- USAHires is being used more and more as part of the application.
- Many agencies are stating in the announcement – Resumes must be 5 pages … Or they will not read past page 5.
- The Profile – new sections that are important to complete for the HR searches
Step 9 – Track and Follow-up – this is more important than ever, to know the results of your applications.
Step 10 – Interview and Negotiate – The government interview is still difficult – this is a test. Learn tips to coach your clients.
