The Association for Strategic Planning (ASP, www.strategyplus.org) announces that it is launching a project to define, capture and disseminate best practices for non-profit strategic planning based on organization size. The project will launch in early September 2011 with a goal of sharing initial findings with other strategic planners at
ASP's annual conference on April 30 - May 1, 2012.
"We're thrilled to have the interest and excitement from our non-profit members who started this conversation at
ASP's conference last year," said Dr Stanley Rosen, former ASP President, 2010 ASP Hall of Fame Inductee, and Professor of Acquisition Management at Defense Acquisition University. "This project is the result of several interested practitioners continuing the conversation and putting together an initiative that is sure to help advance strategic planning in non-profits and help practitioners gain knowledge, tools and best practices to do their best."
ASP anticipates that the scope of the Strategic Planning Non-Profit Best Practices Project will include three phases. Phase one will include a literature scan for best practice in planning for non-profits and planning practices that deliver results; a broad-based survey in the non-profit community about practices and values regarding strategic planning; and definition of the criteria to judge a best practice in non-profit planning. Phase two includes analyzing data resulting in a list of best practices by comparing against value/efficiency/effectiveness criteria drawn from the survey and from research. Phase three includes developing a matrix of best practices for the small/medium/large non-profits, recognizing that different-size organizations have different resources available for strategic planning. Any strategic planners in non-profits are welcome to participate. If you are interested, please contact Suzy Radwan, Midwest Practice Leader for the Haines Centre for Strategic Management,
by email by August 26, 2011.
