?Best Pizza on the Continent?
No Kill Date
Clinton Township, MI ? Feb 25, 2009 ? North America?s paramount pizza originates in the southern metro area of Detroit. Shawn Randazzo, owner of Cloverleaf Pizza Take Out & Delivery accepted top honors in the traditional category of the annual Pizza Pizzazz Challenge?. The contest was held in Columbus, OH during the North America Pizza and Ice Cream Show®. Randazzo captured top honors in the traditional pizza-making category, the triumph also came with a cash prize of $7500.
58 entries from across the USA and Canada were accepted in the competition pending scrupulous stipulations. Entrants must use their signature dough and red sauce along with a combination of traditional pizza toppings. The pizza must also be a featured menu offering at the pizzeria. Once the pizzas were submitted to the judges, the criteria used for this world-class ranking consisted of taste, appearance and marketability.
Randazzo presented Cloverleafs? deep dish ?Meat Supreme? pizza, crowned with pepperoni, ham, bacon and Italian sausage. Randazzo, competing for the first time remarks, ?I always have people coming in saying we should open a store here and there, or that they would like to open a Cloverleaf Pizza out of state because nothing compares to ours. To me winning this competition validates that.? Randazzo?s mentor and Cloverleaf founder, Gus Guerra developed the now famous square shaped ?Detroit Style Pizza? in 1946. Randazzo dedicates his award to Guerra?s memory. ?Many pizzas in the area have all originated from Gus and his wife?s recipe. I am honored to credit the family with their contribution to our industry?, stated Randazzo.
