This was our 8 th annual Pizza & Prevention event in Punxsutawney. In light of the events of 9-11-2001, we initiated this event in 2002 to recognize the fallen heroes of 911 & the volunteer firemen in our community. The purpose was to let the community know who these self-sacrificing individuals are & show appreciation for the unsung heroics they perform in the community at any given time. We priced our best selling pizza the 'BIG DADDY' at $9.11 & got the 3 volunteer companies to help out as workers, drivers, phone operators......
In 8 years the volume of pizza produced on this day has grown 400%
As Big Dave would say this is a 'Feel Good' event for all involved. It is great for us to really be a part of our community , the fireman have fun & the community responds. Yes, it is a big donation on my part, but 'You reap what you sow'. My business & profits have steadily climbed. My customer loyalty is at an all time high, because my customers are 'WOWED!' I could never afford the publicity this event has generated, people drive over 100 miles to support this & many local businesses as well as national ones willingly offer to pitch in. In that regard I have to say that a local insurance agent, Nationwide - The Kengersky agency has been a HUGE part of this as they provide the smoke detectors and add that all important Prevention aspect to this event. In 8 years we have equipped about 2500 homes with working smoke detectors & have raised over $100,000 for the local volunteer fire companies.
