Mentor Our Kids Sets Goal of Serving One Million Interns
January 21, 2014 - New York, NY – Mentor Our Kids, a non-profit organization committed to increasing the quality and quantity of student mentoring internships offered by public, private and non-profit organizations set a goal of helping them serve one million interns by the end of 2015. The goal was set in honor of National Mentoring Month.
Recent research indicates that young people do not receive enough career-related experiences in the real world. An Associated Press study found that over half of all college students were not able to find jobs commensurate with their college degrees. A study by McKinsey found that many young people do not know how to get the right education for a decent job or launch themselves on a viable career path.
"In 'Why Good People Can't Get Jobs', Wharton Professor Peter Cappelli noted that the solution lies more with the companies that can give students job-related experiences, rather with the schools," noted Jerry Cahn, Ph.D., J.D., Chairman of The Presentation Excellence Group who founded Mentor Our Kids. "Throughout my career, I've helped over 500 students learn through internships. Now, it's time to help many more companies improve the quality of mentoring internships and increase the quantity of such positions to help themselves and the students."
Mentor Our Kids (www.MentorourKids.org) is a non-profit committed to helping companies improve their intern programs to have a larger positive ROI by providing Program Coordinators and the Mentors with technical information, social support and program evaluation tool. At the same time, it focuses on helping students explore job options and understand workplace life in order to get the most from the mentoring internships.
Dr. Cahn will be presenting a free webinar entitled "Create a High ROI Student Mentoring Internship Program" on March 5. 2014. To register for this webinar, which is one of six that he is presenting in February and March, visit www.jerrycahn.com/winter-2014-webinar-series.
