New Book Release Examines the Risk Patterns and Early Signs of Most Business Failures, "Risk Factors and Business Models"

San Antonio, Texas—Early signs of business failures examined and researched by recent graduate, D. Anthony Miles, from University of the Incarnate Word, reveals the causes of most business failures. Miles, upon completing his doctoral work, extensively, over a period of four years, researched risk patterns of small-to-medium business ventures, which is believed to be the cause of most business failures.

In his research of nearly 500 businesses, Miles explains, in his newly released book "Risk Factors and Business Models: Understanding the Five Forces of Entrepreneurial Risk and the Causes of Business Failure", how he can predict potential business failure with ventures through examination of risk patterns. He illustrates the risk factors and why they cause failure. In addition, he further discusses his findings by examining ventures from his research on small-to-medium business enterprises.

Miles acknowledges that "some business ventures are just doomed for failure due to heavy competition, industry-type, market size, and business model type." He explains there are five key factors of entrepreneurial risk that make a difference in the success or failure of venture. He, also, provides some interesting data on how to avoid bad business ventures.

He explains that, "many ventures have the power to prevent failure, but some failures cannot be prevented due to market paradigm shifts; also shifts in customer needs. No business can predict that." He also explains the why technology-driven businesses drive many traditional businesses into failure.

Among his most startling findings revealed in the book is that gender and race do not have any bearing on risk patterns that cause failure. The author's advice for new entrepreneurs is to "stay away from 'commodity-type ventures' because they have extremely high levels of competition and market saturation."

"Risk Factors and Business Models" is available online at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnobles.com.

D. Antony Miles is available for interviews.
