Finding that perfect Shopify theme can be tricky. Because of that, companies often use other websites as inspiration. While browsing the web, you might notice a compelling visual design. In these situations, you need to use a detector tool to figure out what kind of theme the company used so you can emulate it.
Understanding How Shopify Themes Work
Themes give your online store its looks and functions. They determine the layout and how people interact with various elements and products. Ideally, you should go with themes that come with numerous customization options as you’d want to have as much freedom as possible when designing your shop.
Why Use a Shopify Theme Detector?
Companies use these detectors as a source of inspiration. For example, if you see a specific design that you like, you can use the same visuals for your own web store.
Theme detectors are also relevant for creators. With these tools, you can learn more about trending visual styles so you can start producing similar designs. Similarly, if you have a theme platform, you might consider featuring some of these designs so you can cater to your audience.
15 Shopify Theme Detectors to Try
When making this article, I wanted to focus on the best tools on the market. Among others, I wanted to share which tools require login and email address and which ones you can use without leaving any information. I also wanted to emphasize the extra features and customization options that some detectors provide.
Gorgias is, first and foremost, an e-commerce platform meant to improve the shopping experience for your website visitors. The software streamlines interactions between you and your target audience, ensuring a higher engagement rate and retention.
Although the theme detector isn’t necessarily a part of that platform, it serves as an ancillary feature. With it, businesses can learn more about design trends and find premium themes for their current and future website.
As for the online tool, it’s pretty straightforward. You’re asked to input the URL of an elegant design as well as your email address. After a few minutes, the software will track down the theme and send you the info to your email account.
Similar to Gorgias, Avada is meant to help your promotional efforts. It sends out welcome emails, abandon cart emails, review requests, and other marketing messages. Given that the platform can segment your potential customers, you can use Avada for a more granular marketing strategy.
The inspector tool is rather straightforward; you input the business URL, and the software provides information about it. You can quickly figure out if a company used a custom theme specifically made for them or if they used some of the premade designs. I liked that Avada doesn’t ask for your email address or other contact details.
Still, I’m not 100% satisfied with the results. The tool struggled to detect some of the online stores that I’m certain work with the Shopify platform. So, you need to take these searches with a grain of salt, as they might provide false negatives.
With PageFly, you can create an impressive design for your site without relying on complex code. The platform works under a simple drag-and-drop premise, making it ideal for newbies. PageFly allows you to find the perfect layout for your online store and present products in the most efficient way possible.
Its Shopify app detector is straightforward, like most other tools on this list. Just put the store ULR into the search box and find your perfect theme.
While PageFly does its job, I consider it interior to Avada. Specifically, while you’ll find the name of the Shopify theme, there isn’t a link that will take you to the source page (something you get with Avada). You also don’t get any other information that will help your online business.
There are several cool things about the Kustomer platforms. AI customer support is the software’s hallmark feature, helping you improve customer experience through automation. The software can also break down every order so the business owner can learn more about the chosen products, tax, and other financial data.
There are a few things I hate about Kustomer spy tool. To find your bold and eye-catching design, you need to mark a privacy box, giving the company the right to use your personal information. On top of that, the software only works with business email, and you can’t use your personal email. So, if you’re looking for speed, find some other tool for your valuable insights.
Unlike most other entries on this list, Gochyu works exclusively as a checker tool. It has some of the most powerful detection capabilities out of all the entries and comes with a few nifty advanced features.
First and foremost, I have to mention that this program works for the biggest website builders, including Shopify, WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace, and so on. No matter what you’re looking for, you’ll find it with this dedicated theme detection tool.
After inputting the URL, the program will give you a clickable theme name. There’s also a button guiding you to SEMRush, where you can learn more about the e-commerce store. Lastly, the tool provides the name of the hosting platform. All of these additional features, coupled with the tool’s simplicity, make it one of the best (if not the best) entries on the list.

If you want to learn more about website product offerings and plugins, you should check out this tool. ScanWP shows you information about the theme version, app stack used and app prices, tags, screenshots, and other information from which a dropshipping business can benefit.
Unlike the flagship software, the company’s Shopify detector provides less information. It tells your development team what kind of captivating design the Shopify store used. Unfortunately, you can’t access the theme page unless you leave your email. Because of that, I’d place ScanWP a tier below some of the better detectors.
Ecomm Design has a vast theme library for any dropshipping business. You can browse themes based on categories, platform and tool used. The company works as a website design provider, so it makes sense they also offer a theme detector. Here, you can create customized themes or find design aesthetics fit for businesses of any type of size.
This dedicated theme detection tool is rather straightforward. You need to place the website URL into the box and press designated button. After a few moments, the software will provide the name of the design. There’s a live link to the theme page, although the software doesn’t provide any other information or resources.
While this software beats some other entries on the list, specifically those that require your email, it doesn’t provide as much information as Gochyu and some other, better solutions.

The Koala theme detector is one of the rare tools on the market that comes with a browser extension. It’s worth noting that this software provides more than a designer checker. The tool also tells you about website traffic and provides product recommendations. My favorite thing about it is the revenue calculator, which helps online businesses assess market position.
The Koala Inspector Chrome extension gives you the exact Shopify URL for a specific site. The tool shows the theme and establishes whether it is a custom design. On top of that, the software has a wide range of customization options and other data necessary for successful stores.

As the name indicates, this tool can help you figure out the official theme behind any Shopify website. It is a simplistic program that relies on minimalist design and works under a copy-paste premise. After you input your URL, the software will provide the name of the theme, which you can click on.
Unfortunately, you’ll need to leave your email to access the page. While you don’t have to input your credit card information, it’s still something I hate, as I don’t like leaving my data on random sites. On the other hand, the Shopify and WordPress theme detector provides data for that particular store, which is a nifty addition for your search engine optimization team.
Fritz is a platform you can use to analyze websites. The software analyzes various tools, apps, and domains, providing insights into design choices, traffic, usage, and other valuable information. The platform is especially great for your app developers, showing them what your competition is doing.
Fritz theme detector is something you can use on a daily basis. While it doesn’t have any customization capabilities or enticing features, it does its job as intended. The tool generates a link to a basic theme, where you can buy the design for your site. You don’t have to leave an email.

With AfterSell, your company can upsell to its past clients. The software can create customized offers, boosting your revenues while improving the shopping experience for customers.
Your theme developer can rely on the AfterSell detector tool to find a functional design for your brand. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst solutions on this list. You only get the name of your captivating design without any link. This makes it hard to track it down.
With this platform, you can supercharge your marketing strategy. The software helps you create workflows for your team, ensuring that the customer journey goes without a hitch. There’s also an AI call center that will help you convert visitors at a much higher clip.
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend the Desku theme checker. My main issue with this tool is that it requires your email address. Even if you provide one, you need to wait some time until the program delivers your design. So, it’s much better to go with one of the simpler, faster solutions on the list.

Appointo is a program that manages your appointments. It delivers email and text notifications to users and introduces a booking widget to your website. I love its mobile-responsive layouts and fantastic yet simple menu.
Appointo’s checker suffers from the same issues as AfterSell. The tool will show you the exact theme a company used for its website, but you can’t click on it. To make matters worse, there aren’t any advanced features or Chrome browser that would increase its utility.
As the name implies, Pipi Ads is a software that helps your advertisement campaign. Specifically, it allows you to analyze competitors and learn more about their campaigns.
I don’t particularly like their detector tool. It only shows the underlying design but doesn’t offer a link to the landing page.
Open Thinking is a platform that offers numerous popular themes to its users. You can use their efficient theme detection tool for free to find the visual style used for a specific website. Alas, you can’t click on the theme’s name, which forces you to spend some extra time browsing for it.
Alternative Way of Finding Shopify Themes
While these checkers will save you a lot of time, there are alternative ways of finding themes of great-looking websites. For example, you can go to a specific store, right-click on the screen, and press the “View page source” button. Within the source code, you can find the name of the theme.
Another method you can use is by matching the theme number with the actual theme. Use Google to find this information and browse registers to find the number associated with a specific design.
Summary
After reading this article, you should have a much better understanding of theme checkers and what they provide. My suggestion is to always go with programs that have several extra features and allow you to click on a theme’s link. Most importantly, I would stay away from websites that ask for your email as this only complicates things.
