Given the importance of social media, companies have developed search engines that would allow you to browse through these platforms more efficiently than you could do directly in social media. With these unique search engines tapping deep into the APIs of the popular social media networks, you can find trending topics, people, and brands on websites such as Meta, X, and Instagram.

In this article, I’ll talk about the most popular tools from this software category. I’ll explain why every social media marketer should have one of these tools in hers or his arsenal, and what type of features to expect from each program on the list.

Social media search engines are programs that skim through popular social platforms, such as X, Meta, and Instagram, to find trending keywords, online mentions, brands, and people. The software is invaluable for businesses as it shows them what users think about their brand and how often they’re mentioned in online publications.

Here are some of the main use cases for social media search engines:

  • Finding trending keywords and topics
  • Assessing social engagement with your posts
  • Analyzing competitors’ activity on popular platforms
  • Measuring conversion rates and other relevant metrics
  • Analyzing user sentiment and brand awareness
  • Finding specific people on social media
  • Learning about who manages various social media accounts

These platforms are invaluable for modern reputation management. They provide lots of quality data regarding your company’s online and social media presence. Among others, these programs show you how users feel about your brand, helping you find potential brand ambassadors.

In the following section, we’ll talk about general social media search engines and search engines for people. The first category is used for just about any type of internet and social media search, while the latter specializes in tracking individuals, their email addresses, and social profiles.

General Social Media Search Engines (keywords, mentions, hashtags, etc.)

By using these social search engines, you can easily find popular content on Google and social media. Browse topics based on keywords, popular hashtags, and mentions to see how people react to different stuff.

1. Social Searcher

Social Searcher

Social Searcher is a straightforward social listening site that lets you browse mentions, users, and trends. Type in your brand in the search box to see how often your company pops up and on which social media platforms. Alternatively, you can use the platform to find trending keywords to use for your social media strategy.

My favorite thing about this social media search tool is that it shows you the exact number of mentions on the web. There’s also a stat that shows the total number of websites where the keyword or person was mentioned. Check out the sentiment analysis tab to see how people react to a particular brand or topic.

Social Searcher gives you a neat breakdown of mentions based on social media platforms or websites. This allows you to find platforms that mention your brand the most, which is vital for your marketing strategies. For example, you can see if someone is leading a negative campaign against your company.

2. Talkwalker

Talkwalker

By using Talkwalker, you can simplify your social listening, media monitoring, and social benchmarking. It is a neat tool that helps you determine what people think about your business. The software is especially effective for competitor analysis, showing you potential market gaps that you can exploit.

Sticking to the topic of benchmarking, Talkwalker assesses how your business performs on social networks in a specific market. Audience sentiment analysis is especially valuable as it gives you better insights into your campaign messages, branding, website design, and social profile performance.

Talkwalker gives you excellent audience insights, helping you find the optimal demographic for your social media campaigns. There’s also a breakdown of your performance on different platforms, which helps you determine where you’re most effective. Lastly, I have to mention that Talwalker does a fantastic job with customer feedback analysis, finding frequent promoters and detractors.

3. Hootsuite Listening Basics

Hootsuite Listening Basics

This particular software doesn’t come as a standalone product; instead, it is a part of the existing Hootsuite platform. The program relies on Blue Silk technology and AI-driven solutions tailor-made for social media networks. By implementing this solution into your workflow, you can collect relevant data and extract valuable insights for your marketing efforts.

The integrated primary search tools help you browse company mentions and trending topics. The software analyzes everything that has been said online in the last seven days and is even able to compare two searches side by side. Improve your user-generated content pipeline by monitoring Reddit, Quora, X, forums, and popular news sites.

5. Mentionlytics

Mentionlytics

This powerful tool does an excellent job of monitoring all your online and social platform mentions. Mentionlytics works for Meta, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, and other platforms, giving you valuable insights into your online content performance.

The software provides a detailed analysis of your competitors and shows you how your company stacks against them. I also love its brand awareness insights, which demonstrate your overall reach and engagement on social networks. Like other social search engines, Mentionlytics comes with a complete sentiment analysis.

Another thing I liked is the mention clustering. The platform groups mentions based on topic, which makes it easier to analyze your overarching content strategy.

6. Mention

Mention

Besides monitoring your general online presence, Mention does a fantastic job of tracking relevant content on socials. It gives you valuable insights into the brand’s influence and overall sentiment. My favorite thing was the AI tools, which assist you during the planning phase and content curation.

Mention provides basic reports on social media trends, showing you how a particular topic is performed on YouTube, Reddit, X, Meta, and Instagram. You can break down each top trending topic into smaller segments to see how passionate people are regarding this particular keyword.

7. Boardreader

Boardreader

Boardreaders is one of the simplest programs on this list, and while the others focus on modern social media, this tool focuses on “traditional” social media: forums, blogs and reviews. It works as a traditional search engine, allowing you to make your query directly from its homepage. Upon retrieving results, you can further filter them based on several parameters. For example, Boardreader allows you to sort results based on date, relevance, language, type of content, and more.

It also helps there are advanced search options, which are especially valuable when sifting through keywords. Select all results with a particular keyword, focus on exact phrases, or implement negative keywords. If you wish to polish your search strategy further, check out the trending topics tab to see how a particular phrase performed over the last period.

Social Media Search Engines for People

This category of social search engines tracks down people on Meta, X, and other sites. One of the main reasons why you should use this software is to find the actual person behind a specific social account.

9. Spokeo

Spokeo

Spokeo is split into several main functionalities. The platform analyzes names, emails, phones, and addresses, helping you find intimate data about online users. My only issue with this software is that it doesn’t work on a global scale; its name search is limited to US results.

When you perform a search, Spokeo gives you data about a person’s whereabouts, marital status, race, family relations, title, and company. You can sift through all the results based on relevance or age (descending or ascending). I would also love to mention the email checker, which does a fantastic job of retrieving various data for just about any address.

10. Social Catfish

As the name indicates, Social Catfish is primarily used by people who want to determine if they’re being catfished. However, it also provides enormous benefits to marketers who want to gather info about specific social accounts. Besides checking names, this nifty tool also does reverse lookup of images, emails, phones, usernames, and addresses.

When using name search, you can choose which age group and country you want to focus on. The software will sift through online publications, social networks, and other sources to find relevant data. Once finished, the platform provides a list of users, with each entry disclosing current address, gender, relationship status, criminal record history, and social media links.

11. BeenVerified

BeenVerified is very similar to traditional search engines, allowing you to browse usernames, people, addresses, emails, and phones. Marketers use it to find other entrepreneurs associated with particular social media and email addresses. Basically, the website helps you connect the dots, which is vital during the outreach phase.

The software does a thorough search of all major social platforms. In just a few moments, it allows you to peek into associated profiles and contact info and find a full name for the searched username. Besides the basic data, the software retrieves family data, images, and social profiles for that user.

12. PeopleLooker

PeopleLooker

The thing that differentiates PeopleLooker from other similar websites is that it can also perform a thorough property search associated with a specific user. Besides the usual name search, the tool browses emails and phones. It’s worth noting that PeopleLooker only works for the US IPs.

The website starts by checking all social media profiles that use that name. After that, it browses public sources and internet pages to provide more accurate information. Among others, PeopleLooker helps you retrieve images and videos of that person, social profiles, family and friend data, as well as professional connections.

13. FaceCheck.id

FaceCheck.id

FaceCheck uses an advanced technology to scan face photos. The software goes through social media, mugshots, sex offender registries, blogs, and other web publications to find a person associated with a pic. The program shines when used by marketers to determine if the person on the other side is legit.

Conclusion

By using search engines, you gain valuable insights into your SMM performance. These search engines provide awesome content ideas and help you find popular keywords on platforms such as Meta and X.

While this list features some of the best search engines on the market, I’d recommend you do your own research.
