MT. FREEDOM, NJ (Expansionary News Service) January 5, 2014. This year and beyond Americans will demand access to emerging medical technologies such as bio-printing of body parts, robotic surgery and robotic home health care, and will also expect their insurance programs to cover the costs.
Or so says sociologist and future trends expert Michael G. Zey, Ph.D, in a recent interview appearing in
USAToday exploring the emerging trends of 2014.
According to Dr. Zey, breakthrough technologies, including the bio-printing of organs such as an ear or a pancreas, surgical robots, and nanotechnology will enable people to live well past 100.
He described a "clash, a conflict that's going to take place" between the public's expectations about medical treatment and "bare-boned" health care plans such as Obamacare and Medicaid.
Dr. Zey also predicted that economists' jubilation over a "recovering economy" will be short-lived. He described the New Normal of part-time, temporary" work . 80% of new jobs in the first half of 2013 were part-time positions, and Zey thinks this trend will continue. He also warns that the Federal Reserve is wading into dangerous economic waters by keeping interest rates near zero percent and continuing to print billions of dollars "out of thin air."
How can we finally end the years of economic stagnation and enter a new era of prosperity?
In his books such as
The Future Factor and
Seizing the Future, as well as in his forthcoming new edition of
Ageless Nation" Dr. Zey describes his optimistic vision for the American and global future based on technological development and an economy that unleashes each individual's creative potential.
We can hope that 2014 is the year that the "better tomorrow" envisioned by Dr. Zey begins to unfold.
